Retail sales in U.S. rose in December by 0.4%



According to a report by the Commerce Department, retail sales in the U.S. rose in December by 0.4% compared to the previous month.

Analysts had expected the index to increase by 0.5%.

In November, retail sales rose 0.9% (revised from +0.8%).

By the end of 2017, the index increased by 5.4%.

Excluding car sales, retail sales in December increased 0.4% after rising 1.3% a month earlier (revised from +1.0%).

Analysts had forecast growth in December increased by 0.3%.
